Cebu Pacific has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Pratt & Whitney, a global leader in aircraft engine design and manufacturing, to supply engines for 15 narrowbody jets from the A320/A321 family.
This agreement, announced at the Singapore Airshow, forms part of Cebu Pacific’s 2019 order that also included 16 A330 NEO aircraft, marking a significant step in finalizing the airline’s current fleet expansion plans.
The deal not only secures the engines for the narrowbody jets, whose engines were previously undecided, but also includes a comprehensive service agreement for engine maintenance through Pratt & Whitney’s EngineWise® service.
This collaboration underscores Cebu Pacific’s ongoing trust in Pratt & Whitney, having first selected the company’s Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines in 2012.
Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, expressed gratitude for Cebu Pacific’s continued confidence in their technology, highlighting the GTF engine’s benefits in fuel and carbon emissions savings.
The deliveries for this recent order are expected to begin in 2025, further enhancing CEB’s operational efficiency and environmental performance.
Mike Szucs, Chief Executive Officer at Cebu Pacific, emphasized the memorandum’s role in finalizing the airline’s current order book and setting the stage for future growth up to 2027.
This move is part of CEB’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in regional markets across Southeast Asia, China, and Japan, leveraging the recovering demand for air travel post-pandemic.
Additionally, Cebu Pacific is in the process of reviewing proposals for a significant fleet expansion, having issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) in October 2023 to Airbus and Boeing for 100 to 150 narrowbody jets.
This ambitious plan represents the largest commitment ever made by any airline in the Philippine aviation industry, highlighting CEB’s long-term growth aspirations and its commitment to enhancing operational resilience and capacity. – CebuLifestyleChannel.ph
