Residents of Camotes and Bantayan Islands will soon have easier access to critical dialysis treatments, as the Provincial Government of Cebu announced the upcoming inauguration of hemodialysis centers in March, Sugbo News reported.
This development aims to eliminate the need for patients to travel to Cebu City for their treatments, providing significant relief in terms of both convenience and cost.
Governor Gwen Garcia, in a meeting at the Capitol on February 22, disclosed plans to install 10 dialysis units at each of the two Capitol-operated island hospitals.
The Bantayan District Hospital in the Municipality of Bantayan and the Ricardo Maningo Memorial Hospital in San Francisco, Camotes, are the designated sites for these vital healthcare facilities.
The meeting also saw the attendance of key figures such as Board Member Dr. Stanley Caminero, chair of the Provincial Board’s committee on public health, Integrated Provincial Health Office chief Dr. Rannie Gravador, and Capitol consultant Dr. Christina Giango, highlighting the project’s importance to the region’s healthcare agenda.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Provincial Government to enhance healthcare accessibility for its constituents.
The partnership with Medtronix Medical Supplies and Equipment, represented by proprietor Jona Brigida Navarro, ensures the project’s realization.
Medtronix is also collaborating with the Capitol on the establishment of 15-unit dialysis centers at Danao Provincial Hospital and Carcar Provincial Hospital, which began operations in April of the previous year.
In a move to further support indigent patients, Gov. Garcia issued Memorandum No. 32-2023 last November, instructing chiefs of Capitol-run hospitals with dialysis centers to waive dialysis service fees for patients certified as indigent by accredited social workers.
The Cebu Provincial Government operates four provincial hospitals and 12 district hospitals. In addition to the new centers in Camotes and Bantayan, Balamban Provincial Hospital also features a hemodialysis center with plans to increase its capacity to 25 units by mid-year, up from the current 10.
This expansion underscores the Capitol’s commitment to improving healthcare services and accessibility for all Cebu residents, especially those residing in the more remote islands. – CebuLifestyleChannel.ph
