The British Council has announced the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Fair 2024, set to be held for the first time inside the bustling Ayala Malls Central Bloc in Cebu City on March 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to make the world’s most popular English proficiency test more accessible to Filipinos, with events also planned in Manila and Davao.
Janelle Almosara-Capiral, British Council Southeast Asia Communications Manager, emphasized the council’s mission to support aspirants by making the IELTS more approachable.
Recognized by over 11,000 organizations worldwide, including governments, academic institutions, and employers, the IELTS is a crucial step for those wishing to study, work, or live abroad.
The fair aims to democratize access to English proficiency assessment, moving away from traditional venues to more accessible locations.
“Our goal for 2024 is to establish fairs in locations that resonate with accessibility, allowing test takers to attend with their family and turn the day into an enjoyable experience,” Almosara-Capiral stated.
The event will feature information sessions covering topics such as IELTS: Myth Busters, Famous Study Abroad Destinations, and Skilled Jobs on the Rise.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to receive free consultations from a wide array of IELTS partners, including recruitment agencies, education agents, embassies, visa/immigration consultancies, training centers, and review centers.
Samantha Smith, British Council Regional Director for Exams, highlighted the strategic importance of enhancing English proficiency through IELTS for career future-proofing.
“Having a globally recognized language certification opens doors to diverse career goals and creates pathways to seize opportunities worldwide,” she said.
In addition to Cebu, the British Council invites interested parties to join their sessions in Manila at Shangri-La Plaza on March 9, and in Davao at Ayala Malls Abreeza on March 23.
The fairs promise exciting games, exclusive event promos, and raffle prizes, with special offers for those registering for their IELTS test on-site. Registration is free, but slots are limited.
