The University of San Carlos (USC) is gearing up to host the 8th University Research Conference (URC 2024) with a focus on “Sustainable Futures,” in conjunction with its 75th anniversary celebration.
Scheduled for April 18 and 19, 2024, at the Talamban Campus, this year’s conference promises an engaging lineup of over 50 research presentations that delve into sustainability and its impact on future generations.
Highlighting the event, a roster of distinguished keynote speakers has been confirmed, including Maria Luz C. Vilches, Ph.D., Vice President for Higher Education at Ateneo de Manila University, who will explore the pivotal role of higher education in crafting a sustainable future.
Adding an international perspective, Michael Lochinvar S. Abundo, Ph.D., CEO of OceanPixel Pte. Ltd. (Singapore), will discuss the potential of the Blue Economy as a strategic approach to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Philippines.
Furthermore, Hon. Elmer Francisco U. Sarmiento, Undersecretary of the Department of Transportation, will offer insights into the Blue Economy from the marine transportation viewpoint.
The conference will also feature two panel discussions. The first panel aims to provide a comprehensive outlook for Cebu’s future, with contributions from esteemed panelists such as Melanic C. Ng from the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Reilla Mae Christa B. Guioguio from the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., and Hon. Jennifer C. Bretaña from the National Economic Development Authority RO7.
The second panel will explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the future.
Building on the success of last year’s conference, the Office of Population Studies Foundation, Inc. is set to hold another symposium during URC 2024, promising to offer insightful discussions and groundbreaking research findings.
