Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia has initiated discussions with potential investors to drive forward the Provincial Government’s initiatives on water supply and waste-to-energy (WTE) projects, according to Sugbo News
In a significant move towards enhancing the province’s infrastructure, Gov. Garcia recently met with Farchad Kaviani, the Managing Director for Southeast Asia of the Suez Group.
The Paris-based company specializes in water and waste management solutions and is exploring opportunities to contribute its expertise in Cebu.
The meeting also saw participation from representatives of Infrastructure Asia, an entity that facilitates infrastructure projects by connecting solution providers from Singapore with needs across the Asian continent.
This engagement underscores the Provincial Government‘s dedication to identifying and implementing sustainable and efficient infrastructure solutions through international partnerships.
The waste-to-energy project, a long-standing item on the Provincial Government’s agenda, aims to address waste management issues while generating energy.
The search for a credible partner to bring this project to fruition reflects the Capitol’s commitment to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.
In parallel, the Capitol is advancing a substantial bulk water project intended to benefit at least 25 local government units across Cebu.
The initiative seeks a private sector partner to oversee the operation of these water supply projects, signaling a significant opportunity for public-private collaboration.
The discussions hint at the potential for groundbreaking partnerships that could significantly impact the province’s infrastructure landscape.
“You can talk business with this government,” Gov. Garcia stated, signaling a robust and business-friendly approach to dealing with investment partners.
During the meeting, the Suez Group presented its business models and areas of expertise, aiming to forge a partnership with the Provincial Government in managing water and waste projects.
This interaction is part of Capitol’s broader strategy of engaging with the private sector to enhance public services and infrastructure, as demonstrated by its existing collaborations with companies like Filinvest Land for a BPO Complex in Cebu IT Park and Manila Water for water treatment and distribution in the Metro Cebu area. – CebuLifestyleChannel.ph
