Megan Young, who made history as the first Filipino to win the Miss World title, is poised to grace the international pageant stage once again, this time as host for the 71st edition of the Miss World competition.
Young, an American-Filipino actress, first assumed the role of host at the global event in 2014, just one year following her memorable coronation in Indonesia.
Since then, she has showcased her hosting prowess in the 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 editions of the pageant, marking a significant six-year tenure. This year, Young is set to return for her seventh stint as presenter on the much-anticipated coronation night.
The ceremonies for this year’s Miss World pageant are scheduled to be held at the prestigious Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai, India, on March 9.
The event is slated to begin at 10:30 p.m. Manila time, promising an evening filled with glamour, culture, and international camaraderie.
Joining Megan Young on stage will be the celebrated Indian celebrity Karan Johar, adding a touch of Bollywood flair to the hosting team.
The night will be further illuminated by performances from popular Indian artists Shaan, Neha Kakkar, and Tony Kakkar, ensuring a spectacular entertainment lineup.
The 71st Miss World pageant will see the participation of 112 contestants from around the globe, each representing their country and vying for the coveted title of Miss World.
The Philippines will be represented by Gwendolyne Fourniol, who hopes to follow in the footsteps of Megan Young and bring the crown back to the Philippines.
This edition of the Miss World pageant is particularly significant as it marks the return of the event following a two-year hiatus. The last competition was held in Puerto Rico in 2021, where Karolina Bielawska of Poland was crowned.
The pause in the annual tradition was a direct result of the global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, making this year’s gathering a celebration of resilience and the enduring spirit of the Miss World organization.
The Miss World pageant, renowned for its emphasis on “Beauty with a Purpose,” continues to champion charitable causes and empower women to effect positive change in their communities.
This year’s contestants will not only compete in traditional pageant segments such as evening wear and talent but will also participate in the impactful Beauty with a Purpose projects, highlighting their commitment to humanitarian and advocacy efforts.
As the world tunes in to witness the crowning of the 71st Miss World, the event promises to be a testament to the pageant’s legacy of fostering unity, showcasing diverse cultures, and promoting global philanthropy.
