In a spectacular showcase of skill and determination, the Red Bull Half Court Cebu Qualifiers reached its climax with the University of San Jose – Recoletos (USJ-R) clinching the championship in the 3-on-3 men’s division, and Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Ormoc securing victory in the women’s division.
The event, held at the Sisters of Mary in Talisay City, Cebu, enthralled spectators with a mix of raw talent and sheer athleticism on the rustic school grounds.
The tournament was marked by intense competition, with teams displaying high levels of skill, agility, and passion. Amid the fierce battles, USJR, EVSU Ormoc, and Daily Grind Family (DGFAM) distinguished themselves, earning spots in the National Final next month.
EVSU Ormoc, celebrating their second consecutive win in the women’s division, praised the power of teamwork for their success.
“Our back-to-back wins underscore the cohesion within our team, proving that together, we are unstoppable on the court,” they remarked, emphasizing their collective strength and synergy.
The men’s division champions, USJR, expressed astonishment at their victory amidst stiff competition.
“We never expected to triumph over the sixty-plus dedicated teams competing in the Regional qualifiers. Our victory is a testament to perseverance and hard work,” they stated, encouraging Cebu’s basketball enthusiasts to continue striving for success.
Both champion teams, along with the men’s runner-up DGFAM, now advance to the National Final, facing off against qualifiers from Davao and Manila, including wildcard teams with professional players, raising the competition level. The ultimate prize is a spot in the Red Bull Half Court World Final in New York City.
Tournament Director, Coach Eric Altamirano, reflected on the impact of the event. “By hosting this event, we’re giving Cebuanos a chance to explore different basketball formats. The enthusiastic response to the Cebu Qualifiers is a testament to the region’s passion for basketball and its talent,” he noted.
As USJR, EVSU Ormoc, and DGFAM gear up for the national showdown, they carry with them the hopes and support of the entire Cebu basketball community.
