For the second time, Mandaue City, Cebu is gearing up to host the 7th International Cat Show 2024, a distinguished event under the auspices of the World Cat Federation (WCF) and the Society of Feline Enthusiasts of the Philippines (SFEPI), with the Island Rescue Organization (IRO) designated as the beneficiary.
Scheduled for April 13-14 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex, the exhibition promises an adorable showcase of at least 80 cats daily from regions across Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and neighboring countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
In a statement, SFEPI president Rogelio Maclang highlighted the inclusivity of the event, inviting household pets alongside breeding and mixed-breed cats (Puspins) to participate.
The competition focuses on breeding standards and overall maintenance, but Maclang emphasizes, “This is not just about the competition of who has the more beautiful cat; it’s about how you present your cat.”
He elaborated on the significance of a cat’s behavior in the judging process, linking it to the owner’s interaction with their pet.
With an entry fee of PHP 6,000, the cat show covers expenses for judges from various regions, including accommodations. Participants are required to present a vaccination card ensuring their cats are current on anti-rabies vaccinations.
IRO President Analyn Aizpuro expressed that a portion of the entrance fees would support the organization, which presently cares for 180 dogs and 41 cats.
She stressed the event’s inclusivity, encouraging the showcasing of Puspins and rescued animals.
“This is their time to shine,” Aizpuro remarked, indicating the opportunity for mixed breeds and rescues to compete alongside other breeds.
IRO plans to conduct an adoption drive during the event, with Aizpuro likening their rigorous adoption process to that of adopting a child through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Aizpuro also highlighted IRO’s commitment to responsible pet ownership and their advocacy against animal cruelty, sharing the transformative stories of rescued Puspin cats who have become beautiful, affectionate, and grateful pets.
The 7th International Cat Show 2024 not only aims to celebrate the beauty and diversity of cats but also to promote awareness and support for animal welfare through engagement and competition.
