The Federation of Associations of Private School Administrators (FAPSA) is set to hold its 26th National Annual Convergence on April 4 and 5, 2024, in Cebu City, highlighting the critical role of small and medium-sized private schools in the Philippine educational landscape.
The event, themed “Strengthening the Synergistic Partnerships Among Small and Medium-Sized (SMS) Private Schools,” aims to unite these institutions in addressing their concerns to the government more effectively.
Scheduled to take place at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, the convergence will feature discussions on educational updates, best practices, and the integration of technology in schools. Dr. Reynaldo Chua Jr., President of FAPSA, emphasized the importance of such institutions collaborating to voice their concerns to the government.
Originally established for administrators, FAPSA has evolved into a broader educational community, now including teachers, non-teaching staff, parents, and students from various private educational institutions.
The organization seeks to draw government attention to the challenges faced by small and medium-sized private schools and advocate for solutions to improve academic standards and the global ranking of Philippine education.
Among the significant issues FAPSA addresses is the need for government subsidies for students from kindergarten to Grade 10, complementing the existing support for senior high school students in private schools.
Dr. Chua also called for more school administrators, especially from Visayas and Mindanao, to join FAPSA and amplify their advocacy efforts.
The event will feature plenary speakers from the Department of Education (DepEd), including Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Gina O. Gonong and Assistant Secretary for Operations Francis Cesar “Panchet” Bringas. Rep. Roman T. Romulo, chairperson of the Basic Education and Culture Committee of the House of Representatives, will provide updates on legislation relevant to small and medium-sized private schools.
Breakout sessions for school owners, administrators, teachers, parents, and students will cover a variety of topics, including school excellence models, reinvigorating education, and bridging generational gaps in learning.
The convergence will also explore the use of AI technology in enhancing student performance and discuss leadership, digital economy, and community prosperity.
Special messages from Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, Secretary of Education, and Senator Sherwin Gatchalian will highlight the importance of partnerships among private schools for effective advocacy.
The event will conclude with an oath-taking and recognition ceremony for key stakeholders in the private education sector. – CebuLifestyleChannel.ph
