In a strategic move to bolster cybersecurity in the Philippines, American firm Resecurity, in partnership with Cebu’s 888 Tech Exchange Ventures, will host a major event on April 18, 2024, aimed at raising awareness and equipping local businesses with advanced cybersecurity tools.
The event, set to take place at the Fairfield by Marriott Cebu, will draw business leaders and IT specialists from various sectors including finance, government, utilities, academia, and more.
Resecurity, known for its comprehensive cybersecurity services to Fortune 500 companies and government entities worldwide, aims to address the growing threat of cyber attacks which have prominently targeted the Philippines.
According to Ren Nograles, General Manager of 888 Tech Exchange Ventures, the urgency for enhanced cybersecurity measures stems from the increased online transaction activities and the pervasive threat of digital scams and cyber attacks affecting all business sizes.
“Cybersecurity is no longer a matter of if but when,” Nograles stated during an interview, highlighting the inevitability of cyber threats. He emphasized the critical role of education and awareness in combating these risks, pointing out that local enterprises, especially in Cebu, must prioritize their digital defenses or face severe repercussions.
The conference will cover the latest trends in cybersecurity and demonstrate how businesses can utilize current tools to protect their digital infrastructures.
This initiative aligns with the broader national efforts underscored by the recent approval of a five-year National Cybersecurity Plan by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., aimed at strengthening the country’s resilience against digital threats.
The urgency for robust cybersecurity infrastructure is echoed by the alarming statistics from a United Nations report, which notes the recruitment of Southeast Asians in online scam operations, including romance and investment scams, crypto fraud, and illegal gambling.
These operations often masquerade as legitimate job offerings in tech-related fields, further complicating the cybersecurity landscape.
Nograles reiterated the importance of proactive cybersecurity investments, stating, “Cybersecurity is not an expense but a fundamental investment for companies reliant on technology.”
He noted that safeguarding operations is essential not only for preventing financial and reputational damage but also for maintaining trust with customers by protecting their data.
This event promises to be a pivotal step in advancing cybersecurity readiness in Cebu and beyond, as businesses continue to navigate the complexities of the digital age.
