In an impressive display of stamina and teamwork, GEALON RACING TEAM conquered their most challenging competition – the 2024 IRONMAN event, hosted in the scenic Mactan Newtown, Lapu-Lapu City.
Competing in the relay category, the team featured Ronald Sarmago in the swimming segment, Fiscal Hazel Caraballe in cycling, and Fiscal Jill Ann Gealon in running.
Their times were remarkable, with Sarmago finishing the swim in one hour and twenty-four minutes,
Caraballe completing the cycling part in three hours and twenty-eight minutes, and Gealon wrapping up the run in two hours and forty-five minutes.
The race conditions were far from ideal. Swimmers faced a challenging under-current that made it difficult to meet the regulation time.
Cyclists had their endurance tested by headwinds and crosswinds, particularly challenging on the CCLEX bridge.
Runners had to demonstrate both survival and determination as they navigated their leg under the harsh noontime sun.
This year’s triathlon marked the 10th anniversary of the event and featured a grueling course consisting of a 1.9-kilometer swim, a 90-kilometer bike ride, and a 21-kilometer run, stretching across Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova town, and Cebu City.
Over 30 professional triathletes participated alongside a total of 1,385 athletes from 54 countries, making it one of the most demanding IRONMAN events ever staged in the Philippines.
Team Manager Rey Gealon expressed his delight over the team’s performance and their strong finish without any injuries, attributing their success to both diligent preparation and divine intervention.
He also extended his gratitude to the sponsors, including XFM Broadcasting Network, owned by Dr. Remelito and Madam Olivine Uy, METRO Gaisano, CCLEX, Alin Brokerage, and Tri J Marketing, whose support was instrumental in making their participation possible.
