Following a tragic fire in the Sambag 2 area, Cebu City officials have organized “Oplan: Kadangpan sa Nasunogan,” a major relief operation and legal aid event scheduled for this coming Saturday, April 13, 2024.
The event, spearheaded by the Office of Councilor Rey Gealon, will take place at Maharlika Gym, starting at 8 AM.
This initiative is a collaboration between several local organizations including the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City Chapter, Talisay Sugbo Masonic Lodge 422, and the Cebu City Mobile Force Company.
These groups have come together to provide comprehensive support to those affected by the recent disaster.
“Oplan: Kadangpan sa Nasunogan” is designed to address the immediate needs of the fire victims by offering a range of free services.
Legal professionals and volunteers will be on-site to provide free notarial services, create affidavits, and offer general legal assistance. These services are crucial for residents who need to process claims, verify their identities, and handle other legal matters disrupted by the fire.
Councilor Rey Gealon, the event’s organizer, stressed the importance of a coordinated response in times of crisis. “In the wake of such devastation, it’s vital that we come together as a community to offer tangible help and support,” Gealon stated. “Our goal is to ensure that every affected individual and family receives the help they need to start rebuilding their lives with dignity.”
The event is expected to draw hundreds of residents in need of assistance. In addition to legal aid, organizers are preparing to provide psychological support and guidance on accessing governmental aid and insurance claims.
Local authorities are also using this opportunity to review and strengthen urban safety measures to prevent future tragedies. “This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of strict adherence to fire safety regulations and community preparedness,” added a spokesperson from the Cebu City Mobile Force Company.
Community members who wish to volunteer or contribute to the relief efforts are encouraged to contact the Office of Councilor Rey Gealon. More information can be found on the Cebu City government’s official website or by visiting the offices of the collaborating organizations.
Residents of Sambag 2 and nearby areas are urged to attend and benefit from the “Oplan: Kadangpan sa Nasunogan” event, as the community works together to heal and rebuild.
